Key People Here is a list of the key people involved in running the company. Please see contacts and links for individual websites and email addresses. Paul Burgess (join artistic director and company director) In addition, Jethro Compton is working with us to produce A Place at the Table.
The Artistic Directors Paul and Katharine’s creative relationship is a strong one that goes back a number of years and over various different projects, and their cohesive approach to designing work together combines all visual elements in a true integration where it is impossible to see where one element begins and another finishes. Katharine Williams - Lighting Designer Katharine Williams is one of the UK's most innovative young lighting designers. She works primarily in drama, dance and physical theatre, with some opera, musical and circus projects, and creates dynamic, strong, image-driven work. Katharine is a strong collaborator, and her input into the productions on which she is a creative team member is rarely limited to simple input on lighting. Her lighting has often been described as an additional character in the action of a piece. Katharine has collaborated with some of the UK's most exciting emerging artists and companies, as well as with established companies including Northern Stage, the Traverse Theatre, London's Gate Theatre and the National Theatre of Scotland, and venues including the Roundhouse and Royal Opera House. She has designed work for productions in Hong Kong, China, New Zealand, Canada, the USA, Mexico, Ireland, Holland, Spain, Germany, Armenia, Romania, Russia, Italy and the Czech Republic. Paul Burgess - designer and director Paul Burgess trained as a set and costume designer but now also works as a director and teacher. He led the creation of three projects for Daedalus Theatre Company; Selfish, Out of Nothing and A Place at the Table and has co-directed or co-curated various works across the UK and in Siberia for the collaborative, cross-arts Scale Project. His approach to directing stems from commitment to a rigorous process where research and conceptual integrity shape the work, a belief in collaboration and an open-mindedness about the final form of the piece. As a designer he has worked at numerous venues in the UK, ranging from fringe venues to Glasgow Citizens' Theatre, Shakespeare's Globe and Manchester Royal Exchange, as well as venues in New York, Vienna, Ghana and Islamabad. He is currently a tutor on the Certificate in Performance Skills & Theatre Studies at Goldsmiths College and has taught at various UK universities. He has also taught at the National College of Arts, Pakistan, where he helped develop the Theatre BA curriculum. He has worked extensively in youth arts, including specialised work with teenagers at risk from exclusion and young people with disabilities. |
